A new isl&nd has recently sprung up near the northwest coast of Borneo, oppoeite th fcown oí Labuan. Its formation is connected with tie earUiquake which was observed on September 21, last year, near Hudat (BrtóiBh North Borneo). The island consiste of argillaceous earth and rock. It is about 650 íeet kng and 488 feet wlde. and has increased in size since its appearance. The emerglng of new inlands frora the ocean, as well as their disappearance, is by no means a rarity. Among others the Graham Island and the Falcon Islands are examples of thia fact.
