Emancipation Day
Emancipation Day was celebrated Monday with great eclat jn this oity ander tbe auspices of LuouJlus Lodge, K. of P. Bxoursion traius on the Michigan Central and the Ann Arbor railroads brought large nnrnbers of people frotn Jaoksou, Toledo and other points, and the eleotriccars tiansported those who oame from Ypsilanti and Detroit. Altogether there was a large gathering of the colored population of this end of the state assembled to do honor to their great annnal holiday. The exeroisas of the day were held at Relief Park and at abont 11 o'clock a. m. a prooesaion was formed headed by two bands of masio which marobed throngh the Btreets and wended itsway to the park where it dispereed. A program of speeches and mnsic was gone through witb and then the time was given up to amusements, dancing being one of the prinoipal forms. Ssveral gamblers and fakirs were present on the gronnds plying their uncanny vooatioas, but they were gathered in by the offloers aad lodged in jail. In the evening a grand ball vas hele at the armory which was well attended. It was an orderly and respectable celebration and does Lnonllus Lodge, K. of P., muoh oredit.
