The ninth annual assessment of the Washtenaw Mutual Fire Insurance company amounts to $3.25 per $1,000 on the capital stock of the company. The year ending August 31 shows the largest aggregate loss since 1890, although there have been years where a greater number of individual losses have occurred. The fire which destroyed tha house and barus of G. W. MoCormick in Northfield during the month of August caused the largest single loss in the history of the compauy. Still the year has been a fairly prosperous one. August 1, 1898, the capital stook of the company amounted to $5,240,685, the members numbering 3,076. The following are the losses for the past year. I This brings the sum total to $17,649.92, which with rent, interest, postage, printing and salary, and small reassessment, amounts to $18,729.72 for the payment of which the assessment is made.
