Wrn. B. Stiokney, A. M., wbo resided at the corner of Hill and Twelftb sta., oomniitted snicide at 7 o'olook this morning by shootiog hinaself through the head, the bullet entering the baok of the head and Jodging just baok of tbe eye. Mr. Stiokney built a fine honse on ooming bere froin Chioopee Palls, Mass., where he had beeu superintendent of schools, sorue years ago. The house ooBt him $6,800 on whicb he plaoed a J,500 mortgage. As time went on the mortgage iuoreased until it got to be $5,000, while baok taxes also aconmulated. Abont a month ago be sold his home for $6, 500 realizing $600 after the mortgage and taxes were paid, and ïnoney held out for an indenuty bond of abont $600. He was sued in the cirouit oourt for $1,300 by a pnblisbiug oompany with whom be was doing business. These are the conditions whioh probably led up to his snioide. He bad a horror of firearms, and bad refnsed to allow any in the house, but about a montb ago his son obtained a 38 calibre revolver oa a trade, whioh he showed his father. Three days ago the father asked for the revolver. Tcere were no oartridges, bnt he must have gone out and bought thenj, for it was witb tbis revolver that the act was oommitted. Last night he spent looking over bis papáis and talking to bis farnily. He spoke about its being an awful tbing to lose one 's home. He itnpressed upon bis son the care of his mother. This raorning at 7 o'clook, while the famüy were down Btairs, a revolver shot was heard in Mr. Stiofeuey's room, wbioh was npstairs, and he was fonnd dead lying npon the floor. Mr. Stiokney was a voluminous writer of oommnnioations for newspapers. He was a leoturer, his leoture on Nicholas TessJa being very highly oommended. His principal bnsiness. however, was that of agent for enoyolopedias. He spent muoh of bis time ont of the oity in this woik. He was very happy in his family relations and leaves a wife and two sons, one of whom is at honig.
