The Detroit Evening News of Satnrday ooutained tbe following: An amiable Jooking gentleman sat on the lounge in tbe inside office of military headquarters with Gov. Pingree this forenoon. He kept right on talking, althongh tbe governor bad that irritated twitoh abont his lips that indicated a Pingres tornado. Suddenly the storm broke. The "old. man" jnmped to his feet and marking time with his oloaed flst he sbooted : "By beaven, I'd be asbarued to be that , kind of a repnblioan. I always had a respeot for that representativa of yonrs, Peek. He had no nse for me, or for anything I did or anything I said, and be said so straight oat. Bat Sharp ! No, sir, yon can 't come any of that bnsiness on me." The gnbernatorial tornado moved toward the desk the amiable luoking gentleman following. "Bot if yon can nse him on yoar side, governor," the latter said, what'S the good of autagonizing him'". I don't oare a d n for bis usefnlness, " roared the goveruor. Burrows is done for, anyway, and I ain't goin' to ooax John Sharp nor anyone else." The amiable looking gentleman made a hard flght for the, O. E. stamp for Sharp, but his efïorts were in vain and he finally quit. "Who's the amiable looking gentleman, governor?" asked the News. No one round here seems to know him." "That chap!
