A Giant Gun

The new 126-ton gun, intended to b placed on Romer shoal, in New York harbor, and now receiving its finishing touches at Watervliet, is the largest cannon in existence, six tons heavier and five feet longer than tha greatest Krupp gun. lts lengtfo, is 49 feet 2 inches, and tne diameter of its bore ís slxteen inches. lts projectile wlll weigh 2,300 pounds, and the flring charge of powder wlll be nearly 1,000 pounds. The extreme range is calculated at sixteen miles. The total cost of this gun and its mounting will be about $300,000.
