The social which was held at the home of John Loakes for the benefit of the library of district No. 10, Lodi, last Friday night, v.-as certainly a success considering the condition of the threatening aspect of the clouds during the day. The receipts of the evening were $13. John Mayer auctioned off the boxes and proved himself a competent auctioneer. Mr. Lindeoman wa clerk and we certainly can recommend him to any one wishing a competent man. Mrs. Schiable had charge of the fishing pond. Everyone who took part did themselves credit and we hope that the books to be purchased and read may be of much benefit and cause the people to rejoice in the fact that they live in "the land of the free and the home of the brave."
