JUDSON INTERVIEWED

_________

ON THE THREATENED VETO OF THE QUARTER MILL BILL.

________

He and Regent Sutton Wanted It Signed--The Governor Puts All State Institutions on the Same Basis.

A rumor was floating around the streets Saturday afternoon that ex-Sheriff Judson, who is known to be close to Gov. Pingree and Regent Sutton were not exactly pulling true on the university quarter mill bill. The ex-sheriff, when seen, today said he wished to deny the rumor teetotally. He was anxious himself to have the governor sign the bill and he knows that Col. Button also was very anxious to have the governor sign it as he had talked with him last Friday. Continuing the doughty politician said: "I know the governor thinks the university ought to have the increased appropriation. But these appropriation have so enormously increased. Each member of the legislature in order to get appropriations for his own home institution votes for the appropriations of all the other institutions and the governor seems to feel that he must treat them all alike." '"Yes," said the ex-sheriff, "the governor does think the university needs the money appropriated for it but he does not see how he can sign that bill and veto the others. "
