A Serious Runaway

Mrs. Sindlinger Very Badly Injured by Runaway Team.

Which dashes into her carriage which was badly smashed. -- The Runaway was a terrific one.

A serious runaway occurred on S. Ashley St, last evening.  The team of Christian Burkhardt, of Lodi, attached to a hay rack behind which was tied a road wagon, broke loose from the post to which they were tied and ran south on Ashley St at a terrific rate.  In the block between Jefferson and Madison St, they ran into a carriage in which were Mrs. Barbara Sindlinger and her grandson, a boy of 9 or 10 years old.  The grandson was driving.  The runaway team ran into the carriage throwing the occupants out.  One of the horses fell under the carriage and kicked it all to pieces.  Neither the hay rack nor the road wagon behind it was injured.  The boy was not seriously injured though somewhat bruised, but Mrs. Sindlinger was very badly bruised about the head and body and was unconscious.  She is about 75 years old and the shock to her nervous system was a most severe one.  She was taken into the residence of her daughter which is nearby and Dr. Klingmann was summoned.
