Only a Verbal Contract.

The work of tearing out the front of William Allaby's store on S. Main st. will be commenced tomorrow. It will be done by Wesley Howe, the builder. A new modern front of the best American glass will be put in. This store and that adjoining formerly owned by late Philip Bach were put up in 1866. A. A. Terry had the contract for both stores. He had only a verbal contract, but he never had an unpleasant word with either Mr. Bach or Allaby. The front put in at this time was of the best imported French plate. It held out so well that never a glass has been cracked. It was at the time the finest front in Ann Arbor and caused much attention. Mr. Allaby now laughs about the views of many people that he had "more money than brains," when he put in such an extravagant front. The old front will be put into the rear of the store.
