Fantastic Ice Glen Parade

More than 100 people took part the

other night in the annual torchlight

parade through Ice Glen, near Stock-

bridge, Mass. The procession formed

at the park at 8:30 and, headed by the

Stockbridge band, marched down the

street to the entrance of the Glen,

which is a rock ravine where ice re-

mains throughout the year, says the

New York Times. The parade was led

by Peyton Van Rensselaer, who was

costumed as an eastern king. Others

in the procession were dressed as gyp-

sies, nuns, queens, goddesses and oth-

er fantastic characters. Most of the

young women were masked. After

the parade the participants danced on

the village green around a large bon-

fire. Many of the cottagers and their

guests drove down from Lenox to see

this unique performance. It was the

largest and most successful for some

years,
