There were many failures at the examination at Lansing for positions in the U.S. census bureau. Congressman H. C. Smith had recommended more than his quota of five. He will have to name another candidate as only four passed, J. D. Campbell, Marcellus Zerlaut, Mrs. Flora S. Buck, and Clarince D. Clark. Mrs. Buck, one of the lucky five to secure a position in the census department at Washington, D.C, is a resident of this city.
