The First Meeting of the Board Under Act Passed by Last Legislature

The County Relief Commission met yesterday afternoon, and under the powers of the laws passed by the last legislature, granted the following bills to the soldiers who enlisted in the Spanish-American war, for ,the sickness they incurred after being discharged as the result of their enlistment:

Eugene Freer .......... 95.00
C. M. Williams .......... 40.00
Wm. D. Cressy .......... 94.50
Willis D. Johnson .......... 127.50

The act above referred to is for the relief of sick, disabled and needy ex-soldiers, sailors and marines of the Spanish-American war. The prosecuting attorney, judge of probate, county clerk and county treasurer, are constituted a county relief board for the purpose of ascertaining the necessity of extending relief to any sick, disabled or needy ex-soldier or sailor, and make arrangements for it. It even goes so far that t authorizes the board to authorize the payment of any sum which the ex-soldier or sailor may have been compelled to expend for his support, medical aid, care or maintenance before the passage of the act.
