The following letter to Wm. Galpm, of Superior, f'roni a gradúate of the university, we are permitted to copy. It shows how free the elections in the south are. Demócrata cannot say this testiinony, coming voluntarily, and to a private individual, was written for politioal effect, or for the expresa purpose of waving the bloody shirt. Lot every reader of the Courier [ius.1 hit uwu judgmont on the rascalities employod to carry the southern states : MïMi'ins, Tí.1., Aug. 7, 1880, Wu hav; met tho enemy and they stole us. There never was so barefaced and lïaudulent an elcction as day before yestcrday. They do not deny it, except in the and the only excuse they give is, that they wero determinod to win anyway. In the n'rst ward the census showed 1036 males over 21, inoluding a largo foreign population not naturalized, 5S7 white and 499 black. The lrish took issesbion of' the polls and they boost that " no nig was allowed to vote unless hc had the democratie ticket;" yet the result shows that there were lli8 democratie votes, 107 republioans and 73 nationals. In two other warda the samo thing is truc, and in none of the wards wore the blacks allowed to poll their full strength, whilo hack loads of repeaters went iïoni poll to poll. They bought about öO negros and voted them at every poll. Made them voto open tickets, so as to have no dodging. In the country, where there was a nearly fair election, we swept everything, except in two distriots where the nationals were strong and in one where the demócrata got our tickets and destroyed them. The democrats carried 4 out of IS country distriots, while they oarriod 7 out of 10 wards. In ¦" out of 10 we had a mejority ii honestly polled. Ia one ward where we ought to have had over 400 maioritv we ent nnlv 'f In -n ward where we ought to have had 275 majority we only got 147, and would not have had that if the old man had not stood there and kept things straight. They tried to get him out, but he don't bulldoze worth a cent. I was out to the 14th district, and tried to keep things all rigbt out tnere, but they saw that I was in the way of thoir rascality, so they hit me in tho face and put m nut. I could not do anything as they were armod and I was not. These people are tho biggest cowards going. Not one of our men had a pistol so they thought they could do what they pleased, but they took good pains to find out first. The republicans will issue an address to the world, to give the facts as they exist. But we will have our revenge. They have delivered tlicmselvos, bound hand and foot, to the lrish, and next January they will be on their knees to us to help them, but wo will laugh at their trouble. Teil all the Iri.sh you know to come here. It is going to be bettcr for them than tho Tweed ring. Tho negroesaro going to emigrato. There will be an exodus next fall that will beat anything seen yet. Soino will go to Arkansas, tako up wild lands, and settle in colonien, and just rulo themselves ; and some will go to the west and uorth. But something will come of it. Yours, se..
