As usual, upon occasions wbich will admit, the deniocrats of this city " put their footinit" badly, last Tuesday evening. They were so inteneely rejoiccd over the failure of Maine republicans to increase their majority in the state in any great degree, that they were almost crazed. And being so effected they brought out their anvils, and boomed them way into the oight, keeping children awake, and itick people upon the rack for several hours. Thoy were also reckless enough to attempt to organizo the lonL promised Hancock and English club, and to hold a meeting at the court house for the purpose of "jollifying." Wcll, the band played, the anvils boomed, and at a late hour by personal solicitation and otherwise, they succeeded in fairly filling the seats in the court room, which at the best holds only two or three hundred. The office-seekers were cspecially jubilant, or pretended to be. They were also reckless cnougu to cali upon their candidato for congress in this district, the Hon. Wm. H. W'aldby, to make a speech to the audienoc. He í-aid that he was not an orator, ora speaker ; that he had come over for the purposc of meeting sonie of the democrats hcre, and to rejoicc with them over the glorious victory in Maine ; that he was a plain, business man, but invited the most searching investigation into his record. (Query : What record ?) The audience believed him when hc remarked that hc was not an orator. Speeches wero also made by Judge Harriman and Chas. H. Manly, and a club formed, with the following offieers : President- Henry W. Rogers. President- Chas. H. Manly. Secretary- Wm. O. Doty. Treasurer- Adam D. Seyler. It might be added for the gratificación of the democrats, that one of the above ohosen offieers upon being asked to attend the jubilee meeting, remarked in substaace that "the text wouldn't warrant the sermon." The enthusiasm was certainly not intense, and the prospecta not flattering to tlioso looking furward to a place in the court house through democratie votes. Thus onda a democratie jollification on a very doubtf'ul greenback victory.
