Tbe air haa been full of all kinds of rumore for the last ten days, aliout trouble between the 'dresuiaking and millinery house of Gidley & Wheelerof thia city, and a Mr. Stevens, agent of Marshall, Field & Co., of Chicago. It appears -Gidley & Wheeler owed the Chicago house one or two hundred dollars which was past due. Marshall, Field & Co', wanted their money and Hent Mr. Stevens here tocollect it. As soon as he unived herehe frankly told them that he mui-t have the money due his house, or he should gct out an attaehment. As Gidley & Wheeler could not pay, they gave up the pjssession of their goods to the young man Gidley, who, it appears, had for a long time held a chattcl moitgage on the goods whinh he had not recorded. He closed up the store. Stevens ordered the sheriff to break open the store and attach the goods, the sheriff obeyed orders, but was met at the door by young Gidley with pistol in hand, who told the sheriff if he advanced anothcr step ho was a dead man, the sheriff having no disposition to have a piece of'cold lead put into his body beat a hwtj retreat, and then cotumenced arrests and counter arrests, until the old man Gidley, Justice Grangcr, and Stevens were all under bonds to appear at the next term of court in October, in the meanwhile a Mrs. Bagley, tlie lady who was for so many vears the house keeper of the late lliram Arnold,su(vl out an attaehment and seized on the goods for a debt of two hundred and fifty dollars for money that sho had tont (iidley & Wheoler, there is luuch about the whole matter that is really laugh. able. But those that say the most and secm to feel happiest over t ure the lawyers, and as tho CBHe stands now (idloy & Wheeler will upend more money than it would have cast thoni to pay the debt, and it would have been much cheapcr for Mar.sliall, Field & Co., to let Gidley & Wheeler alone and give them longer tune to pay the debt.
