After apendlng a good sliare of the day tishing, arnl having liad poor success in securing many represen tati ves of the finny trlbe, they decided to try powder and shot, as gamo seems to be more plentiful tlian fish, and iri this they were correct, tor tlie si(üirrels, rabbits, and purtridges feil at the report of tlieir guns, aml long.before night tliey had the pleasure of seeing theirgamebag Ulied to its utmost capaclty. ISeing satislicd with llieir day's sport they turneo the ir steps hoiueward, wlierx a large llock of pigeons flew over thelr heads. They were tlie first they liad seen, and discliarging thelr shotguns at them, they had the pleasure of seeing several birds fall at their Icit. On picking tliem up George di( ove red tu liis surprise that one of them had a small oiled silk bagsecurely fnstenvd to one of its legs. On opening it he found a note written in a small feminine hand, and which he has since shown to the writer of this. The following is a copy of the singular epistle: Lexiugton, Ky., May 21, 1881. Tliis pigeon is one of a number caught by uy brother in a ni-t. I conceived the losa of faatenlng tbU note to it, and lequest tlie flixler to write to Miss Eva Carroll, Lodogton, Ky. This was all the noce contained. On arriving in this city a letter was lmmcdiatfly written to the young lady and a reply recelved. A correspondence bu grown out of this romantic Introdacttoo, and it has been ascertained that the young lady is the danijliter of a wealthy stockralaar neai Lexington, and is young and lieuutifiil, and a wedding may yet grow out of the iill'uir. George thanks his lucky stars that he captured the bird, and perhaps by it the heart and hand of the maid wlio orijfinated this ronmntic schcme for correspondence. We await anxiously for the sequel of the pigeon episode. Not a single president of the United States hu mt MM horn in a largecity.
