I believe a boy can be as thankful on Thanksgiving Pay as a man, if he tries awful hard. Some boys are too mean to try, and they getierally die off in the spring. J'm thankful I ain't a girl. Girls can't 6lkle down cellar doors, or hitch on, or throw snow-balla worth a cent They can't take bumps like boys, and if they roll off a sled and their motliers iind it out they get boxed. 1 'm thankful that dad is still alive. When ho dies I'U have to split the wood aud build the fires. He is also very useful In cleaning off the snow and thawing out the penstock. I'm thaiikful I'm notin the grave, whero somc boys are. Some have been taken nnd some are left, and I'm glad Pm ooe of the left. U's about the only thing I ever diil get left on. They say it don't hurt a boy any to die, but I don't want to try it. Tui uot going to be thankful for turkey and óysterï and two kinds of sauce, because we are a little off on llnances this year. We're going to have chicken and mashed taters and pickles, and theui's good enough for u. l'in going to pass my plate twice, whether it's ïashionable or not. I thlnk a boy wlth half a ciiicken lo him feels more tony than the boy who didn'tget anythlng bnt the neck. The more I think of it the more I see to e thankful for. I Ml intothe river twice lust gummcr, and dldn't stay there either time. I fooled with dau's revolver, andsent a bullet nto sister Mary's ear. I'm awful thankfulit didn't hit her in the head. I found a dog and sold him for a pair of skates. I fouud tan cents, and forgot to hlde it wlicn 1 went to bed, and ma never found it out. I gucss 111 put that in among the thanks. I got run over by a buteher curt, and wasn't hurt at all. l'in thankful, mul the butcher is mad. A boy in Chicago was blowed sky high with gunpowder. A boy in Cleveland swallereu pizen. A boy in Syracuse got burnt up. A boy in 8t. Louis got in frou't of a cuuuon. You oct 1'm thankful ! 1 kinder wish I was big enough to knock a boy's üead otl' when he tiirned up hl nose at inv two shilling skates, but 111 have to get alimii somehow, and be thankful that lean outrun any boy 1 can't lick- Detroit Free Presa. No spectacle can be more sad or heartsickening than that of a man or woman who is the slave of passion or appetite, who avoids every form of self-denial, who is devoted to pleasure and abhors duty. ¦Vlmtevor be the condition of such a person, wht'ther he be rich or pool", learned or ignoranl, coarte or reñned, he is but a pltlablc specimen of dwarfed Ininianity.
