The Channel Tunnel

In tact, according to English jouraalsof November 25, uunsually good progress had recently been made. Starting from Sandgate, the Freneh company had boredtoa distance of 4G7 yards, and wás making a fair average daily advancernent, In the early part of the work thoy experienced dilHculty from the water they encountered while boring through the gault, but they had now got to the gray chalk and the temporary dislocation had been overeóme. Thus, their greatest engineering dilficulty was, thereforo, now a thing of the past. At the English end the work is praotieally abandoued. The simplest linen collars are worn with velvt street coitumog.
