We regret to have to say there is no impiovement in Dr. Stowell's condition. Charles Thompson and Charles Lightner of Detroit were in town Saturday. Lieut. Danenhower will lecture at University Hall, ou Friday evetiing, February 9th. Some of the University recitation rooms were too cokl for the classes Monday so they were disuiissed. The Chronicle election is to be held tomorrow. Zane and McDonald will be the Independent candidates, The Sen iors have chosen Copelin of Chicago to shoot thein with a camera. His rites were low, i. e. $3 00 flrst dozen of cabinets, $1.80 after that. In ancient times the University of Bonne, had a fine statue of the Virgin, over the principal entrance, which was known by the title of " Alma Mater," the " sweet Mother." Henee thestudents speaking of the University spoke of their Alma Mater, and the title has descended to all the higher institutions oL learnUg, Lyman D. Norris of Grand Rapids has been appointed Regent in Mr. Cutcheon's place. He jr raduated f rom the Universit3n 1845, and was the first Matricúlate of the University. He has practiced law in Detroit, St. Louis, Ypsilanti and Grand Rapids; been a raember of the State Constitutional Conventiou, a State Senator, and is 58 years old. The Regents met Tuesday evening to fill the vacancies of steward and treasurer. The committee reported upon the names of Harrison II. Soule of Jackson, for eecretary and steward, and James H. Wade of Jonesville for treasurer. The report was aecepted, and on motion they were appointed to those duties, their service to begin next Thursday, February lst. At this meeting the Beatty claim was settled for f372.50. C. R. Miller of Adrián was allowed $74.80 as attorney for the University in this case. Before adjourning the Regents decided that as many of them as possible should be present on the day the eoinniittees from the Leglslature should be here to inspect the Uniyersity.
