Next week when the Young Men's Christian Association of the United States and Canada meets, it will find W. S. Hough, Edward Buckley and W. Hutchinson, as delegates of the University. A medical student named J. D. Shafer, of Illinois, died last week from pymenia occasioned by bleeding his arm the week before. He had been bied, but did not take proper precaution and so had his alood poisoncd. This is the third meinber tlie senior class has lost this year. The freshman class evklently believes in being early in the field, for they have already elected their editors for next year's Oracle, even before the one for this year is out. The young dispensers of oracular wisdom will be Miss S. E. Satterthwaite, of Kappa Gamma Beta; Miss E. P. Underwood, J. E. Burchard, ot Delta Kappa Epsilon; E. F. Demmon, R. C. Peters, Geo. Whyte, of Beta Theta Pi; A. F. McEwan, of Alpha Delta Phi, and F. T. Wright, of Phi Kappa Psi. The game of base-ball at the Fairgrounds Friday afternoon resulted as every one knew it would, yet it was of interterest to see how mauy runs each side would raake. The Detroits did not play in their regular places, conaequently there was not the sharp fieldingseen in a league game. Neither did the professionals show up well at the bat. For the Universities Walker and Almendinger did some excellent work. The score was Total. University ll0008000 5 Detroit j 3 8 2 0 1 3 5 I 0 I 1 17 About 500 wilnessed the game. At the annual electlon of the Students' Lecture Asociation last Saturday the following offleers were elected : President, W. C. Foote ; vice-president, E. O. Grosvenor; corresponding secretary, H. W. Hawley; recording secretary, J.W. Maish; treasurer, J. II. Tyler; assistant treasurer, E. J. Ware; committee men, P.H. McNeil, G. E. Cutler. To those conversant with college politics aud elections it will at once be evident that the offleers as elected, represent only one faction or party. This, of course, is a momentary triumph for them, but in the long run we doubt if it is politie for the welfare of the Leeture Association. To Ilústrate,- this year, although the affairs of the board were managed with the usual amount of skill ; the enterUinments were properly advertised, and were of merit enough to have secured better results, the year's work has not been altogether a success. Wt must be conceded that a portiort of the reason lies in the attractions themselves, but the main cause was that it was not enthusiastically supported by a large body of the students. This class, who are generally good supporters of the course, this year, being debarred from all the offices, naturally lost interest in, and became alienated from the work. The members of the association have not taken warning from this year, and will undoubtedly repeat its experience, indeed they will be fortúnate if they do no worse.
