Aeknowiwlgments are une to llon. O D. Conger for some valuable seedsof some new products from the Department o Ajrrlculture. Also to Hon. Johti K. Boies a meinberof the board of Indian Coinmls sioners for the animal report of the Board Some oi our ciüzens who seem so deep ly interested in water worka, are spending a rood deal of their time iu telling people that Rice A. Bealopposes water work because he is supplied with water. In an gwer, I will say that the St. James Hotel my private residence, and otlier property that I own will be as raueh bonefilted as any, if it is a benelit. Iu short, if it is for Ihe interest of our cily to run in debt a hundred thousand dollars or more there is 110 one wlio will be benefittec more than myself, or that will grumble less at payin his taxes. The debts o some of our sister cities that have been bankrupted by extravagance should be a warningto the people of this city. it i our private opinión that the city is not suf lering for water works. Even if it were, 1 should be by private enterprise, for there is no justice or equity in making threel'öurths of the homes in the city pay their share of an endless debt when it is of no earthly benefit to them. What is said above is the individual opinión of the proprietor of the Cocrikr, and the paper will take no further interest in the matter save that its columns will be open to short, -wellwritten anieles on either sido, until the contest is over, for a contest it will be, and a desperate one.
