Word was received Sunday morningby telegram that Wm. Lewitt, M. D., of San Francisco had died on Friday. Dr. Lewitt was well known in the city and county as lie was for a number of years one of our leadinr physicians. He carne to Ann Arbor in 1840, and when a boy, worked in the drug store of Torn Edward?, and afterwards tliatof W. S. Maynard.wlio became interested in him and gave him bis education in the medical school atPhiladelplna. From 1858 to 1867 he was in the Medical department of the U. of M. as Demonstrator of Anatomy. This he resigned to accept a chair in Rush Medical college at Chicago, "bilt he returned to Ann Arbor wliere he enjoyed a large and successful practice. In 1874 he went to California and has sincc been connected with the San Francisco medical college. He was one of the charter members of the Ann Arbor Commandery, established May 30, 1865 and maintained bis connection with it un'til the time of his death. But for bis unfortunate family relations he would have gained considerable distinction as bis ability as a physician and surgeon made him pre-eminent in his profession.
