I remumber the time wh n I used to sit, A happy and tboughtires boy, When fathei cami hom from his work atlat', And I w6 tired of my toy ; I remember the time, and none more sweet Shall I know forevermore, When I sat at the eve by ray mother's side On the eill of the old front door. I remember I'd Bit till I fell aeleep, And list to their lc ving talk, TFliIle the crickets chirped and the flre-fliei bright ?lew over the garden walk ; And of u-n woula father teil tbe tale Of the time. long years before, Whtrn he ltd nis bride to a happy home, Oyer the Bill oí the old front door, 1 remember when grandfatuer failed and died, Andeighty years old was he, And well I knew that never again He would ride me upon hls kñee ; And though but a gay and thoughtlees boy, I wept, and my heart was sore When I saw them bear him Blowly ou O'er the 6Ü1 of the old front deor. It tB many a weary day since then, And I, too, am "old and gray ; Bt the tears come crowdiag into my eyes When I think of that long pa6t day ; And I only hope that whatever end Fate may have for me in 6tore, I ehall pass once more, ere 1 pass away, 'er the Bill of tbe old front door.
