Gen. Shermun was expected to return to Washington on yesterday. He will make preparations at ouce for tuniing over his office to Gen. Sherklan, who will assume the position on the first of ncxt month. The State Fair this weeek at Detroit, closes to-duy. The entry books were closed Tuesday nonii, with entries to the number of 4,221, the exhibit being especially stiong in cattle, horses, sheep, and farming machinery. The cavalcade of horses and cattle Tuesday afternoon was a fine sight, thatot the horses alone being two miles long. The receipts are inuch larger than last year. 40,000 people is the estimatj placed upon the attendance last Wednesday.
