Notwitbatauding tlic fact tliat t was raloiag outsiilc, ;i oodly Dutnber of tl e alumni and otbers HMembted in t lt Baptist cliurcli 011 l'Yiilay evoning last to listen to the animal address dellvered ly D.JS A. Jones, of thiseity. Unfortunately for the uidience the ü'rst part of the Dr. 's address was almost wholly lost, as lie spoke so very low, and of course it was not easy to get the coiineetion of tlioujihts, but later on hc gained stiength and was well heard throiighout the house. It was a masterly address, and clearly showed that it was but a siuall fragment titken trom a vast store house. The subject of the address was '"Halbheit" or half B ets of the scholar, md the central dea seemed to be, that the scholar linds only the one-half below and is unceasingly striving for the other half. The Dr. rated the teacher as high as the preacher, but hinted that they were a poorly paid .lass of people. The gymnasium evidently hasan ardent supporter in the Dr. judglng from hit remarks concerning it. After the address the alumni and friends repaired to tlie basement of the clmroh, to partake of the banquet kiudlj' prepared for them by the young ladies of the church. Then followed the toasts, with John Sheeban as toast-master. liespouses were given by Prof. Perry, Dr. Ilaskell, Mr. Allen B. Pond, Miss Mittie Curtís, Mr. Chas. Ashley and Miss Anna Campbell. The class of '84, was nicely toasted by its own Sappho, Miss Elsie Jones, who did credit to Iierself and to her class. Most enjoyable was the mtisic furnished by llie committee, Mr. L. I) Wines and Miss May Whedon. Before adjourning, the followinfr were elected olüeers for the ensuing year: President - M. H. Breiman, '73. Vice-President- Qeo. W. Enlght, '7cjSecretary- Miss Mary Hendrickson,'80. Treasurer- Vm. R. Price, '80 Orator- F. A. Maynard, '70. Altérnate- E. E. White, '78. Poet- Elsie Jones, '84. It was specially notieeable tbat the older niembers were absent. This is to be regretted, for they give tone and dignity to the meetings. Mr. John Slieehan, wlio has been president for two years, lias made au able and efficiënt offlcer, as is shown by the prosperous conditiou of the association. At twelve o'clock the meeting adjourned, with everybody pleased, and hoping to meet again next year.
