As each day closes, one more page in the history of our lives is recorded, and indelibly recorded, so that nothing but death can erase it from memory. To-day completes the last page in the chapter 1884. To-inorrow commences another chapter. Whether it shall be a new chapter or a continuation of the old one, remains largely with ourselves. There are inany, doubtless, who desire no change, for whom tlie thread of life Is running ilong erenly and pleasantly. ïliere are others who have all the necessarics and luxuries of life, but whose anibition keeps them constantly reaching for shadows of happiness that fade as they approach them. There are othera on whose every page there is a blot of dissappointment or unhappiness. ïhere are others who listlessly drift along, letting each day record what it may, only aeeking to avoid that portion which is unpleasant. And still others whose deeds are evil, whose thoughts are bent upon that which brings only destruction, sorrow and trouble to their fellowmen. There are still others in tliis long, long list, but we cannot mention more. Each and everyone can, if they choose, make this new chapter a better and a brighter oue t?kin the old oue has been; can forcé to ihr aid contentnient, love, kindness, a ftfow-feeling for their low-sufferers ; can brighten lives that have been dark and cloudy, and bring comfort to the unfortunate. How? do you asU? The way is open and broad, none can miss it who seck it. Ask yourselves 'what you can do, then look about you. " Ktng out the old, ring In the new. Ring happy bells, acrosa the snow ; The year is golng, let hlra go. Ring out the false, ring In the true." "Ring out false pride, in place and blood, The civic slander and the spite; Ring In the love of truth and right, Ring in the common love of good."
