i lio following has been received f rom a correspondent at North Lake : Monday, the 9th of Maich, closed the sccoud successful term of the select school, taught by Mies Mable Beal, of Dexter. On thr afteruoou of Monday the patrous to a goodly numbcr visited the school and listoned to the reeitations, aud at last had their old blood quickened witnessing a contest iu No. 3 spelling class. It was very close, tlic victory being secured by only one point. A number of the patrons exprened their apprectatioa of the teacher in thelr remarla. After which, Miss Beul, in a few well chosen wordt, thanked the scholars lor their interest and aid in tuaking a guecess of thi, her iirst venture in teaching. She can come to North Lake at any time, and be surc of a welcorac. On Fnday erenlng, tho 1 3 1 1 1 , after a weck's preparation, the elotfng exhibition was iven. The hall was lilled at an early hour, aud wheo the curtain roso for the iirst time, and th whole band was difclosed to view, t, wasa plc.isin toeue, and every ear was gladdenod by the renderlng of a leleotion in which all joiued In tbe ehorug. After that antll 11 o'clock the curtain ros a iul feil om ïnany plaasing scènes, recitations, debates, dialogues, etc., closiuíi' with a saerpd act, entitled "Slraply to Thy Cross I Cling." All acted the parta assigned them In a way that merited the unanimous vote of thauks teadered at tho close.
