Editor of tuk Courikr:- A writer in your last issue, who ubtcribel bimseli "II. T. M." has somc very sensible Ideal about a public park. If we are to have one - and we ccrtainly ought to - H sliould be in the city, and easily accenible to its inhabitants, and not out of il, and at a dlstance, where but few would be benefitcd by its privileges. The old burial place in the 6th ward is owned by the city, covered by a beautiful grove of trees, but is ia ui unsightly, and repalsive condition. It would be but little expense to make it a tblnff of beauty. Directly soutli, and adjoining this, is the famoul "dit Hole" that has so loi)? been the disgrace of Aun Albor. The plan of your correspondent "II. T. M." would change this unsightly and unhealthy nuisance, into a clear pool of water, fed by a never failing fountain. All thls.though eminently desirable and practicable, will probably not be accomiIished the present generation. The petilions and miplications for the abateinent of thls nuisance to the board of hcalth (who oujiht of their own accord to move in this matter) and the city council have all been in vain. They are too numerous to describe. Of late, the board of health and city council have hit upon ;i very injienious method of warding this matter off Early in the season they appoiut a eommittee to look after the "Cat Hole," and that commlttee remains in "masterly inactivity" duriiig the entire laborin: seiison lili about ThanksKiving or (Jhristmas, and then reports that it is tpo late for active operations the present year. It is then formally or inforinally discharged, to give place to a similar committee to perform the sanie farce the next year. A committee was appointed for this parpĆ³se the early part of last summer and have niaintained the usual "niasterly inactivity," and probably in a month or two, will bring in the usual imbecile report. So It still remains a probleiu whether there is public spirit enougli in Ann Arbor to canv out the sujfgestions of 'II. T. M."
