TyirrS1?8108 F0K AMERICAN STLDENT8. Volume V. Schillers Briefe. Helected and Edlied with an lntrodaotlon and comraentary by Pnullne Buchhelm. Prlce, $100. New York: O. P. Putnam's 3?.-.wFo,T 8ale ln Ann Arbor by Andrews & Witherby. In making the present selection from Schlller's correspondence, the author has been chiefty guided by the desire to bring together those letters which present the most characteristic view of the development of his genius, and of the various stages of his literary career. Some let ters have been chosen either on account of their reference to matters of general interest in Schiller's days, or becauae they present us with a picture of the mannen of his times. It is taken for granted that those readers for whom the correpondence of an author is of interest, are already acquainted with the raain facts of his biography and have read at least his best works, so that they possess a good practical and theoretical knowledge of this language In which the letters are written. It ia therefore not considered necessary to give either grammatical rule or simple help-notes, but the author confines himself to explaining unusual constructions and idiomatic pecuharities, and to giving such historlcal, personal and literary explanations, as seemed necessary for the elucidation of the text.
