"The Courier editorially claims that Allen will get a part of the prohibltion vote," saya the Argus. Editorially the Codrikr made no Buch claim, and the Argus must have known lt was telling a falsehood in writing it. The Courier claims that Mr. Allen is a consistent, honest, upright temperance man, worthy the suffrages of any man in the 2d congressional district of whatever party. He will not play the hypocrite for the sake of gaining votes; he will not sacriflce his manhood by professing prohibltion in Washtenaw and dodging into saloons in Lenawec, Monroe, or Hillsdale, or vice versa. Do you think for one moment, Mr. Argus, that our Germán citizens are blinded and fooled by the truckling of a candidate! Do you thiuk that our Germán citizens respect a man who attempts to buy up their votes by the price of aglassof beer? If you do, you mistake them woefully. They are too good citizens not to respect a man for températe habite, and too slirewd to be fooled by the "good Lord, good devil" dodge. They prefer to trust a man who is honest in politics as well aa In other things.
