Tlic present tour of thisgreat band was brgun in New England February 28. Tho Boston Herald said : "Mr. P. S. Gilmore probably indulges in the idea that liis home is in New York City, but Boston will continue to claim liira, despite his temporary residence at the metropolis, and future generations will know Mm as 'I'. S. Gilmore, of Boston, wlio once lived in New York.' It Is difflcult to add to what has already been said about tli is jjreut military band, as the merits of the organization and its corps of soloists have been admitted the world over. It is, all in all, the fincst combin:ition of instrumental players of tliis class known, aod performances have bccome long since a standard for criticisn..1' Boston Globe, March 7,1887: "MiGilmore was received with the warmest tokens of appreciation, and the concert throufrhout was most enjoyable. Popular melodies that reach the heart of the rnasses, and classical without stint. The music was vivid, interesting, allluent Jn ornament and graceful in execution, and every strain was cautín and treasured with an intelligent and ready sympathy by Ihe audience. All the soloists were encored, and to oue member of the: band these response were despotically required and given." Springfield Kepublican, March 4: "Mr. Gilmore' wonderful power as a director is well known, and hls method ni watched with much interest. Rurely is any compnny of niusicians under such complete control, and the audience were delighted with all theyheard." New Haven Journal and Courier, March '2: "The band is not ouly a military band of niusicians, but a grand collection of line soloUts, and coutaincd instrumenta which are rarely heard and which delighted the large assemblage by exquisitely fine effects, with music of bewildering difliculty, and oft and again with fl&shes of pyrotechnical musical display which held tueni with a fceling, as li spellbound."
