JüNlATA, Neb., Aujj. 13th, 1887. Kditor Coukiek:- The worst hail storm tliat ever visited Adama eoun tácame down upon us jnst aftersunset Aug. 4tli, aceompanied by a lieavy wind. The storm lasted about ten minutes. Hail stoues were from the size of peas to the size of walnuts, and in places they were piled a foot deep. To get an idea of the racket they made on the roofs and sides of buildings would be to stand about ten feet from the rallroad track wlien a heavy freight train was passing at the rate of 50 miles an hour. The extent of the storm was about six miles wide and lifteeu miles long. Corn in some places U total loss; ears that polnted to the northwest had the busks stripped off as cleiin us a man conld do it with a hiisking plu. Bundie st.icks loked as f they had been beaten witb. a club. Houses on the north side look as the eidewalks useil to in Anu Arbor after tlie studrnts had made a raid oo them. In some places wimlow blinds were smashed in and liorses in pastures were badly cut by runniiij; upon wire fences. Trees six luches tbrough had the leaveB and bark on the north side all cut off. All garden stuft is cut to pieces Prairie grass and stubble w:is cut off. In Hastinifs two large brick buildings were blown down and sevc-ral freight cars were blown off tlie switch in a pile. Hastings and Juniat did not suffer any from hail but I did. I have 30 acres of corn that would have gnne t'orty bushels to the acre. Now I don't know as there will be íorty bushels on the whole plece. I don't want any one tbat reads this to think that I am living Nebraska away. I think iU the best state In the world. I am going to stay until we )iive had a cj clone for I want to see one l)f them. Last f all I was in the worst blizzard ever known here. Now I have geen the worst hail storm and wn.'n 1 see a eyclone, then I will start for Michigan and don't you fo.get it. Vours trnly,
