Greene, of Ypsilanti, 011e of the best men who ever fillcd the position, siinply and solely and only because lic was a republican. Not one man who voted to do this can wag a syllablc off the end of hls partisan tongue against Mr. Greene, either as superintendent, or in any other way. He is acknowledged by everybody to have devoted more time and study to the end ttiat the aflairs of the county as far as the care of the poor was concerned, might be conducted iu a systematic, intelligent, economie manner, than any person ever before occupying the trust, and this not In disparagenient of some of the most excellent men who have acted as superintendents. We understand that this is only the beginnlng, and that more is to follow. The last Monioe Commercial gives an account of the presentatlon to the matron of the poor farm in that county by the board of supervisors, of a gold watch and chain, as a reward for having done her duty wel!. Now if ever there was a voman who has done her duty well, it is Mrs. McDowell, the matron of our poor farm, and the supervisors might dn an act of generosity, not to say justice, by imitating the deed of the Monroe supervisors. The State Board of Charities and Corrections will teil you that there Is not a better managet! or more neatly kept poor house in Michigan, than is the one in this county, and so will any other person who knows anythlng about t, who will teil the truth.
