Editor Courier:- If anv excuse is neoessnry for tlils lutter, let it be the love which I bear to the children both good and bad. For it is a fact tht the flnest lioliday attire can not hiilc tho foct tunt evil influences have a practical eftVct on tbe child, as well as the adult, and thut a beautlfnl oul transfigures the plainest face and form into a belng of wondrous beauty. Tbe child over whotn evil influences has triumphed is to be pitied and loved- he is "more sinned agalnst thun sinning"- even as is nmny an older one. Ou Saturday as we saw dear children marching around the house siiiinre. soine two tliousand in nuraber, preceeded by h band di?oursinr sweet music, our prayers, with those of tlie church militant, nreended to Him who is thc autlior of thelr being: Lord " suil'er tlicm not to be led into temptation, but deliver tbem f rom evil." Such thoughts and questions as the following aróse in our inind as we beheld tbis beautiful Ronipany of cliildren and read gome of the inscriptions on their banners, such as "Onward and Upward," "Little brown liands shall win tlie day," ' Kducation our ate," etc. Who aiuong these like the eminent men of Aun Arbor, the "Atbens of Michigan" will be tlie eduj cators and editors for future generations, taking the untauglit and impressible miud as a devotee to the shrlne of wisdom and like " cly in the hands of the potter " shaping it as they will? Who, like Whittier and Longfellow, will o naturally portray the strong under-current of beiiutiful live?, and the inexplicable wonders of nature astobiingall that is best in man's imture to th surface, and make woman a " uiinUteriug spirit to those wlio shall be heiis of salvation v from vice and crime? Who, like Lincoln and Gurlield and the noble marytre of the (irand Aruay of tbe Hepublic will live and die in defense of their cxintry? Who of thoie boysof Africau descent, like a Douglass, will be a chainpion to secure the minor rights of hia race, and only rest like him iu oíd age to ti nel the work accomplished? And last, but far from being least, who among these like the "honorable wouien nota few," of this generation, shall make such sacred impressions on the lives of those placed uuder (heir care that in all things moral they uiay be as " living epistles seen and read of all men?1' We see (hem in ininture as they niarch gaily along to the sound of music; but we cannot distinguisli them because the dark vail of futurity obstructs our visión, and "that which seems to be is not that which la not yet known,'T but perliaps somewheic iu this great universe of God, we may know these dear onea agiiin, and renüze the beutifu! cftVcta of their " works of faitli and liborsof love." In the meantime subscribing myself the childreu's friend md bldding them Godspeed on life's jonrney, I remain Yours very truly,
