At the adjourned session of the Board of Supervisor., held on the 14th uit., severa) numorously signed petitions were prosonted setting forth tho evils oí the liquor tráffic, and praying the Board to ru(uest or instruot its ofïicers to enforce tho prohibilory liquor law. - Mr. G. D. RiCh and Re. L. D. OhariN of this city, wero present in behalf of the petitioners, and by invitation addressod tho Board, bnefly tatiug the object and aiin.s of the petitioners and thoir desiro that the laws oí the Stnte be enforoed, and by thoso officers whoso duty it is to enforce thetn. After full discussion, whieh was partioipated in bv coveral mernbor of the Board, the followirig preamblo and resolution, offered by Mr. Pkeblbs, of Salem, were adoptcd : Wlierent, Sundry petitions having been presented to this Board relatiug to tlie various evila, buth moral and pecuniaiy, resuliing from tho violation of tho" Liquor Law of this State, theroby increasing our taxes and debasing our moral.'1, therefore, Resolved, That this Board rocom mend the slrict onforeement of the luw prohibiting the sale of ardent spirits, and that the Piosecuting Attorney, the Supervisors individually, and all the .roper officers in t.he county.be prompt in the discharge of their duty in enforcing said law. It the oflficers named wül eomply with the request, honestly, faitlifuily, and foarlebslyi something may be dono toward diniinishing au accursed pauper and crime inaking tratüc ; but private citizena are almost powerless, and from this fact, among others, thftt thi very Board of Supervisor has refused to audit lee bilis of justices and constables in all cases wbere the complaints were nor. made by ofBcers.
