Ediiors Sun : - The following letter eceived by e.x-Governor Wiae, of Virginia, though lato coming to hand, rnay uft be uninteresting. Haviug frequenty hsard it aaked what Mr. Wisejnoant jy the doctrin "ighting in the Union," wrote to him on thj subject, and he jave the reply I now send you. A 'ersonal and political iriend of his, and nowmg him to ba sound as to the novement of the South at onco, yet differing with him probably by what ïame you may cali it, whether "fighting n the" Union," or seceusion immediato, Ireally thiok the great Virginian is littleor none behind the great Alabatnian as to action or ita resulta. J. A. PLEASANTa. Rolliston. near Norfolk Va., December 1, 1860 Dear Sir :- Yours of the 22d uit. was late coming to hand. I now thank you for it. As to roy doctrine of "fighting in the Union," it is one of true policy. First. If a sovereign State b jutge of the infracúon as well a. the mode and measvtes of redress, she may re main :n the Union to resent or to resist wrong, as well as todo so out of the Union. Second. If other Statos have ïnfracied the Union, not she, the State wronged, ie bound to defend the Constitution and the Union against those who have infracted the one and threatened the other. Logically the Union belong to those who have kept, not those who have broken ita covonanis. Third. Tha Union is not an abstraction, it ia a real, substantial thing, embraing many easential and vital polilical rights and propertiea. It has nationalüy, landt, treamry, organization of aruty, navy, hips, doek yards, arsenal, êfc., ifc, Shall we renounce these righta and poseessions, becaupe wrong doers attempt to depnve us of other rights ? Is it not cowardly to renounce one light to save another? Are these rights not us precious as the more right of property in negroea? But Fourtk. If you secede, yna not only enonnee the Union and its posses-ions, ut you fail to unite your own people, jecause vou do renounce theae righte. Wake k man u to destroy the Union nd Constitution, and ha will stare at ou and turn.away. But teil him that the Constitution " is tinfracted and the Union threatened by Black Republicans, aud cali him to aid you in doiendinT both against those who would destrovboth, and he wi'.l act heartily with you. Fifth. Then, hovr is this to bo done? The 3d clause of ehe lOth seotion of the lat Article of the Constitution of the Uuited States permit a State to keep troops and hip-of-war ia time of peace, aud to engage in war, whan iu such imminent dauger aa will not admit of deltiy. Novv, are we actually invaded Í Is our danger not imminent? Does it admit of delay ? May not a sovereign State so decida ? Sixth. And what is the difference 1 Will it not be revolution and war in either evant ? I say then, stick to all your rights, renounce none, fight for all, and save all 1 Yours truly, ikc., "Hknkt Wi. To Dr. J, A.. Plent, Columbu8, Georgia.
