In 1819 Mr. Caleb G. Loring, of tbis city, obtuined ono of the Frauklin medula. Ono oi bis children, a very email boy, was perrnittod, occasionally, by ts mother, to wear tbis medal about its neck. On one of these occasions, being in the street, ayoung gir], as the child statod on bis returu to tho house, took the mcdal frora bis neck and made off with tho treasure. Tliis incident occurred about forty years ago, during which period nothing was heard of the modal unti! Saturday last, January 19, 1861. On that day the medal was re turned to Mr. Loring, throtigh the post offijo, in an envaiope, post-marked Boston, January 19, and subscribed " Mr. Calob G. Loring, No. 94 Warren street, Boston." The envelopo algo contained the following noto evidently in a female hand : " Mr. Lorinq - Daar Sir : You will be surprUed no doubt, to receivo a cornmunication like tbis ; but no more so than I aball ba gratified to know that, in perforining this trifling favor for a friend, I shall have contributed soraething to the bappiness of at least one human beart. Muro than tbirty years ago a little girl fuund thi3 medal ; and though early taught that it was not right to keep what did not bulong to her, even if 8he found it, yet she Oould not mako up her raind to part witb it at once. " She thought sio wo ïld keep it a few day, and see if tho could not erase the n une. Buing unsucceasful in this ishe becaine alarmed at her own conduct, and hoartly wished sbe had returned it at once. JNow she daro not, and what to do she knew not. Finally it was laid away, and for inanj' voar was forgotten. Ono yearagoshe made known these facts to me, and toid me that, at the time, it htul givan her gaat unhapphess.
