Journal records two cases of fruexing to death in that vieinity. It says : " On that terrible night, when tho mercury stood at 33 dogrees below zero iu Marquelte, a man by tho ñamo of Lampson startcd írom this place for Negauneo. His toam, w'.thout a driver, or any ono in the sloigh, was stopped by a Fronchman just above Beuolein's somo eix miles írom Marquette, and tiod by his shs-.nty, in tho expectation that tho owner would soon bo along. And there tho team rcmaiucd all night, being ulmost Irozon to death. Soarch was then mado for the driver, and Mr. Lampson was found at the railroad water-tank, whoro he had raanifestly stopped to drink. Tho suppositioq has been indulged that Mr. L., inight have been running behind the sloigh, and getting warm and thirsty, turnod asido to quench his thirst, and that a copious draught of ice cold water might havo given birn tho cramp, or thrown him into a fit. " An Irish laborer at the Mountains recently procured a jug of whisky, entered an unoccupiod blauk-smitb shop, near tho Jackson Iron Mountain, and being overeóme by tho poisonous drug, he laid himself down in thatcondition, occasionally rousing himseli from his stupefaction suüiciently to lift tho jug to his mouth, and then aga'm relapsing into stupor. For two or threo days he lay thero in this condition, keeping himself so stepped with liquor as to be insensible to his pcrilous condition. When found his iect and Iegs wore frozen to the kneos, and also ono eide of his body. Hu was removed to Mr. Beardsley's, at Negaunee, where he lingered a short timo and died." Large Ckopof Potatobs. - Tho same paper states, on good authority, that Mr. Bignal, of that place, raised G60 bushels of potatoos last season on two acre3 of ground, about a milo from town, it being tho first erop, and of eourso without manure.
