The Nashvillo Democrat ot the lbth t inst., has a slashing article on President ( Jefferson Davis and the new Confedoracy, ( "rom which we extract as follows: This same blusterer, in a speech a few vears ago, ventured to slanner the Teniiessee volunteers. We know what we i say, when we assert that, with all his i bluster, Tenuessee could, if so disposed, 1 subdue the whole cottonocracy in a short time. He calculates now on the soldiers i of Tenncssee to aid him in his wicked and i and fiendish purposa of breaking up this glorióos governmeut. ] He is as proud and as vain as Beilzobub. He thinks that he holds the i doms of the world, and the powers ; of," in the hollow of his hand. He is loeking for the English governmeut to bow to him. He says the English government will acknowledgo the Confederacy. This is all nonsense. The English Government, as well as all othera, knows how to treat the flag of the United States, and so will Jeff. Davis Let him attempt to subdue the Federal Governmeut, let him fire at Fort Sumpter, or any other fort of the Uuitod States, where j our flag now floats, and he is as sure to be hung as that the san will risa row morning, unless he runs, lika a ] ard, to a country bcyond tho roach of Tennessee. We know hundrods of men in his sooeding cottonocracy who are ready to tie the rope for the haiigraan. Jeff. Davis has been producing ' tent, and teaching treason as loog as we can stand it. Ho has been a vilo conspirator against his goverumsnt for years. There is no use in aoothing our penple any longer Traitor3 must suffer, uuless j they stop their treason. We may bo j asked to be patiënt. How in ths name of high Heaveu, can a man bo patiënt when a traitorous flag is flouted in our faca? wben a traitor comes to our very border, and talks treason to our country opeuly? ne talks of sacking cities. Vile rebel ! Inflated bigot ! Let him try the Tennesseans, whom he so basely slandored. , Let him try Xashville. Our readers must indulge us a little. We canuot forbear to deuounce treason; and whenever we cease to do so, "may our right hand forget her cunning " Wa have borne with treason as long as it is possible to do so. Talk of tearing j down our fair fabrio of goernment ! - Never! Never! Jeff. Davis is on the road to the gaüow3, and his followera had better be careful. An iudignant public will not forever indure insult and treason plotting. We have lived prosperously and happily for threc-quarters of a ceutury, aud we know that Tennessee never i will give up this free and happy country. Let this vile traitor aud his foul min ions come. Tennesaee never has forsaken the glorious flag of free and happy Amerioa, and by the Eternal, she never will ! She ha3 ahvays conquered the enemies of the country, and will again, if required to do so. This is our oountry, aud all the powera of earth canaot j 'orce us to give it niv
