-We learn that the vvhole fumily of Mr. Sutherhiid consistiug of scven persots, and i'our ot' the family of Mr. ilinchinan, and Dr. t'owlcr wlio was ealled to altend S.Uherland's, family, wcre poisoued, on the 26th uit., in the township of Pipestoue, ]3orrien county, Borne eight miles northwest ofDowagiac. The distance tbat we are f rom the scène of this horrible tragedy reudrs it alaiost iinpossible to rot anything like the faets; but we glean the following account f rom the mauy rumora now afloat, as the best autheuticafcd : It seeuia that ou Sunday the 25tb, Suthcrland's family went to a neighbors and 8pei.it the dajT, roturning homo at night, and werc all well the next inorning when thcy arose, but werc all taken siek soou aftcr eating breakfaet, and during the day two of Mr. Hinobman's children carne and lound them so. The children drank from tho well and started home, and were taken siek before reaching home. They reported the conditiou of tíutherland's family to their parcutg, who then went to assist them. when tlioy arrived they found Dr. Fowler there aud he pronounced tbem poisoued. Airs. ilinchman I proposed to set somc food, and they then partook of somc tea and biscuit, and were all sooii taken siek. Dr. Fowler, aud two of Sutherland's ehildren havo since died ; the others are supposed to be out or danser. It scems that evorything eatablo was poisoned. The flour, lard, mcal, and j well, havo been cxamined, aud poison i found iu them. The flour was thrown out, and the fowls eating it euddeuly died. A negro named Rhoemaker has been i arrested, and it ia reported that. the evidence against him ia conclusivo. The eitizens threaten to tako him from the jail and lynch him. - Cassapolis Democrat, Sepl, 3. JCS" Whisky is no longer considered coutraband.
