Thursday morning, November 14th, at Camp Anderson, Geomk Sotton, Ebcj . in behalf of the ladies of Whrtmore Lake, presonted to eaeh of the Commisuiissioned Officers of Conipany G, Tlnrd Regiment of 'Michigan Cavalry, a beautiful sword, sash and belt. The company was drawu up in front of Captain Quackknbüsu's head quarters, when Mr. Slt ton spoke as fullows : To Captain T. V. Quadenhush, Lieuls. Wm. C. Sleten and D, M. Caliweïl: Guntlkmen - The ladies of Whitmore Lake and viciuity, have ictrusted me with a sinall token of tlieir regard, wbich tliey oi'tertaiü for you peraoually, as wc'l as for tlie eompany you command. You, gentlemen, and the men under you, left your homes tliat were dear to you, &t your country's cali, to put down a rebellion the most formidable and the least ealled for of shvthlna in the a-mals of Uistory. The great sacrificcs that citizeu galdiors cxpcricnec in lcaving their hom s to fight the battles of their country, can only be remunerated in the cqív sciousness of having done right. And now, gentlemen, ullow me to present to each of you a beautiful sword, sash and belt, uot for their intrinsie value, but be eauae they are suitable for you to waar on thia trying emergenoy ! Use them gentlemen, with fidelity to yourielves, to the gcntle hands that nurtured you in your childhood, to the millions of unborn that will succeod you, and to the houor and glory of thia great llepublic. Lieut. Caldwjjll, in behalf of bis brother officers on their reeeiviug the gifts, responded as follows. Sni - Allow me, and in bohalf of this estire eompany, associated in the glorioua cause we are engaged in, to return you and to the fair pat.riotic friends whoin you represent, our most sincere thanks for this unexpeeted and high compliment. Upon our part no deed yet aceomplished would warrant tliis expression of coufidenee and esteoin ; but wheu hour for action shall come, the remembranee of the fair ladies and generous friepás whose thoughtful lave and care thus finds utterance, these splendid gifts shall ix'rve our .irms to striko stronger for the wlorious fla we maroh under, and whose etars shall yet shinc ever every part of our bejoved country. And we solemnly plege ourselves in return for thÍ3 mark of ooofidenoe upou your part, that no dishonorable act shall evor tarnish the luster of "these besutiful svvords, and we shall ever strive by the worthy perfor manoe of every duty oí' a soldier, to return the good will thus showiitowards us. And wben success shali fiually crowu our efforts in the suppressiou of tliis most unholy and unjust rcbollion, and we return to our homes once morn, as I trust we all will, I believe you will have no cause to blusli for the reputation the " Sutton Guarda " shall briag baek with them. - Asking you oneo more to accept our heartfelt thanks, and fervent wishes for health and prosperity to you all, in our absence, vto leave you, kuowiug that we carry with us your loye, hopes, and prayers,
