Movements At Cairo
Cairo, II]., Jan. 14. The gun-boats Essev, St. Louis and Tyler made a reoonnoissanoe down the rivnr to-day. They approaohed within a mile and a half of Cohunbus, and fire'l several shell into the rebel camp. The rebels reUirned the fi re f rom tbree or faur guns without doing nny damage to our boats. The effect of our sholls is not known. No obstructions io tho rivor, nor masked batteries on shora vvere discovered, as heietofore reported. Gen. McClornand'a column moved in tho direclion oí ]landville, Ky., today. Gen. Paine's' forcé moved forward this morning frorh Bird's Point. The seoond regiment of the Douglas brigade will arrive to-night. The 7th Iowa, 8th Wisconsin, and 45th Illinois, are expected to-morrov.
