St. Louis, March 3. The following is the copy of i telegram from Gen. Halleck: To General M'Clcllnn, Washington : It is officially reported that Joff. Thompson, witli a largo foroe of cavalry and artillury, carne north f rom New Madrid. Our forces advanced from Bird'a Poiut, and met his forces at Sykeston. Ho was pursued into the swamps by the cavalry of General Hamilton and Coloncl Morgan's Brigades, aud three pieces of artülery capturcd. General Popo pursued íinother detaehment south, capturing threc more pieces of artillery, one Captain, one Lieutenant, and a num ber of pyivates.
