(Jol. öhoemakcr has resigued the command of tho Thirtecnth Michigan Infautry, on account of the sickness of his faniily, and last weck returned to his home in this city. Col. Shoemakcr has proved himsclf to bc one of the ablest of commanders, and the brave&t of soldiers. It is witli pride and picasure that we publish the f'ollowing resolutions, which were unanimously adopted at a meeting of the coinmissioncd officers of the regiment, just previous to his departure; Whercas, Col. Shoemaker foels compellcd by the sickness of his family to resign the command of this regiment, and to sunder the ties which have so long bound him to us, the comniissioned officers of tho regiment, thercfore, in our own behalf, and iu bohalf of tho regiment, unanimously givo this expression of their foeling : Resolved, That his geutlemanly bearing duriug his services in tho field havo wnrmly attachcd us to him as a personal friend, wbile his ability as oommander has called forth our warmest respoct for tho officcr. 2. Resoked, That we ehall oherish witli grtcful romembrance tho services of Col. Slioemaker, in leading us on long, fatiguiog marches through Kontueky acd Tennessce, to Rhiloh and Corinth, tliencc through Mississippi and Alabama, to Steveuson ; his masterly management of the retreat from Stevenson, and his gallant bearing at the deadly aud hand to band conflict at Stone river. 3. Resolved, That we slittll ever rcjoice to hear of his personal welfare, aud whatever efficiency niay be shown by the regiment in future battles for our oouutry, we shall with gratitude attributo much to his past efforts and administrativo skill. - Jach&on JEagle, June 0.
