Department has contracted with the Messrs. Crarnp, of Pbiladelphia, for the construction of an immense crutser, intended for fast steaming. Sho will be nver three thousand tons bnrioii, and longer than nny ottier vessel at present in the service. The price to be paid tor her, I nnderstand, is $i64, 000. Contracta were invited genenilly froin shipbuüders tlirnughout the country. It 8 unclerstood in naval ciicles here that a fleet of rapid vessels will bo built.
