-A corres pondent of the Chicago Iribune gives the follow'mg as a cure for this fatal disease: 'In yours of yesterday I noticed an articlc on the 'Cause of Diptheria,' attributing it to a want of salt. Suoh is undoubtedly the oase. An eminent Physican in this city, (Morris, 111.,) Dr. Mathews, (who has held several high positionsin the State of New York in his prot'ession,) very rarely loses a cas oí diptheria In faot, out of hundred he has had, I only know of one or two who have died, and those were fa gone when he was cal'ed. His grea remedy ia saltpeter. Asimple satura ted solution of this, given in doses o! one teaspoonful overy honr or two t. an adult, (and less to children in pro potion to age,) has been efíectual i saving ínany j)recious lives.' S' A distinguished clergymaD be ing requested to open the services wit prayer, but not having been invited t preach, declined, saying, that as h friend was going to do iba mowing, h might whet bia own poytbe.'
