General Seymour wfeo cotnmanded the expedition had been placed under arrest by order of General Gilmore His suc cessor is General Vodges who lcft Ililton Head.Tuesday last with reinforeements for Jacksonville, eonsisting of au entire división. Our inforniation says it saw the opinión of officers, who took part in the expeditiou, that our total losses in killed, wounded and missing are between 1,200 and 1,500. General Seymour is severely censured in not throwiDg out scouts and skinnishers as our troops advaneed. As it was, our troops were led into a trap. Hainilton's artillery led tho van and sufFered severely. The rebel sharpshooters pieked off their horses and the guns had to be abandoned. The Forlieth Massaehusetts Mounted Infantry have also suflerod severely. In the retreat ruany of our wounded wevo left bchind vvithin the enemy'a linea. Our troops wero tight in front of the Confedérate batterios in a pieco of vvoods, before we wero aware of their presence. When their battene? opened a gallhig fire, our men were driven baek pauic iítricken in disorder. The rebel foroe is not known, but it is supposed to havo been large. One of the prisouers captured atated that troops had rocently been seut down from Charleston and General Beauregard was in command.
