-The politan Railway Company has applied to the Legislature of New York for the privilege to tunnel Broadway and run a line of railroad from the Bowling Green to the Central Park. Sueh an underground railroad, connecting the Battery with the Central Park, would at once relieve Broadway. There appears to be no reason why underground railways should not be as successful here as in London, where there is a tunnel road five miles long, conneeting Parrington street with Paddington station ; a doublé track is laid, and the company has already carried about five millions of passengers. The Grand ïrunk Railroad have purchased 2,500 tons of new rails for the American aection ol the road. We sometime ago noted anintention tostipply the vvhole track with new steel pointed rails. The oorpjration have also ordered fifteen new loeomotives, 300 freight and ten passenger care. 33P Hortioulturists have come to the conclusión that the great Northwest is too bare and unsheltered by trees for the production ol fruit - the career of a storm being so ) ted that its power and fury are increased greatly. An opon country jbas buen found to be nineteen degrees colder than a wooden one.
