The last report of this museum, re cently publifhed in Massachusetts, shows some curioua facts f rofessor Agassiz, iu bis account of i's oporations fur the year 1862, say tbat its colluction embraces 100,000 specimens, represeuting 6,000 species, all preserved iu alcohol.- In the collection of the Britisb Museurn, which is now superior to tl.at of Paris, there are but 20 000 specimens. This numerou collection iu Boston neoeisarily permita an extensue sysium oí exchauges, so that the u bolo country reoeives benefit, from the operatiuns of an institutiou wliich owes its found;itioa to Pro fessor Agassiz's private gift of his owu collection. Of birds, there aro uow in tbe Boston Museum more tlfSn 3,000 specimens; of reptiles, there aro 174 different species ; of fishes, Sil species, ntul 2 799 specimen - ichthyology being Aassiz's speciali:y. This is a i-etnarkable exhi'nit of the wonderful growth of a Cfillection wliiel is ouly four ycars old, but wliieh is already the finest esisting picture gallery of the arurtjal kingdom.
